Happy New Year! 2021 is a 5 year, it is a time for change and flexibility. Our 4 year, 2020, required us to tear down structures and foundations in order to build stronger sturdier ones. Now, we have to be open to where these new structures will take us. Change is never easy when you remain rigid and closed minded. This month we get started with a reminder to be open to new beginnings.
January 1st – Mercury and Neptune form a sextile today. Which allows us to express ourselves in loving ways. This can be a really good day for creative writing and the creative arts in general. Singing auld lang syne, check.
January 2nd – The Moon in passionate Leo meets up with Mars in Aries. Is it getting hot in here or is it just me? This could mean things are heating up with a partner, or you could just be finding the inspiration you need to stick to those new year’s resolutions you set for yourself. Mars is just a degree away from returning to the beginning of its very long retrograde season. We are almost full speed ahead now with only Uranus left in retrograde for the moment.
January 3rd – The Moon in Virgo is quite busy today. It is in a trine to the Sun in Capricorn, and to Uranus in Taurus. This makes for a good day to focus in on your intuition to achieve your goals. At the same time the Moon is in an odd angle to both Jupiter and Saturn. Make sure you are grounded before you make any major decisions.
January 4th – Mars is at what we call the anaretic degree of Aries, this can make for some hot heads today and tomorrow. The Moon is in positive contact with Mercury and Pluto in Capricorn. This give us the control we need to respond to the unrest. Our intuition is also really strong with help from Pluto. Tune in and listen before you react. Mercury with Pluto gives us very strong opinions and the ability to voice them.
January 7th – The Moon in Scorpio opposes the planet Uranus in Taurus, which is still in retrograde. These are emotional surprises that seem to come out of nowhere. At the same time the Moon is squaring over to Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius, along with Mercury at the very last degree of Capricorn. This of course means Jupiter and Saturn are squaring off with Uranus as well. This can be a shocking day. Especially since Jupiter makes things even bigger. There is just something weird you are going to have to deal with emotionally. This tquare will not go by unnoticed. We shall deem this the start of the crunchiest days of the month. The help we have here comes from Jupiter and its positive connection to Chiron. Connecting to a higher power will see you through this day, healing from the past is possible. You just may need to face whatever is shown to you one final time.
January 8th – Mercury moves into the sign of Aquarius, now is the time to communicate with others, to embrace new ideas, become inventive. At the same time Venus moves into grounded Capricorn. Love and finances become much more serious. And Mars is also at 0 degrees of Taurus. This is it, the moment you have been waiting for. It is finally safe to make some big moves. Especially since Venus and Mars are in a trine to each other. There is still enough tension in the air that these new moves won’t come easily, it could be that because of all the turmoil you are pushed to make a change.
January 9th – the Moon in Sagittarius makes positive contact with Chiron in Aries. This is just what we need to heal emotionally from the unrest over the past several days. Both the Moon and Chiron make a sextile to Jupiter. There could be a very big healing opportunity that comes in some form of a miracle. Some situation is repaired that you never thought possible before. Could involve a bit of divine intervention.
January 12th – We have our New Moon in Capricorn today, like our one in Sagittarius it is also at 23 degrees. This adds up to the number 5, which is about flexibility and change. Powering up this new moon is Pluto sitting at 24 degrees of Capricorn, making this planet conjunct the New Moon. We are taking our power back and facing our fears with this new moon. These new beginnings can be very powerful, very transformational. At the same time Venus is making a trine over to Uranus who is in Taurus with Mars. This can bring pleasant surprises in love and money. Jupiter is exactly sextile Chiron still, continue to present us with what feels like a miracle healing. Jupiter and Uranus are still in a square, and now Venus is in a square to Chiron. It is a mixed bag of energies. Capricorn rules our career, our recognition. You will want to focus your new moon wishes in the areas related to our career, our fame, success in general. January 13th – Our crunchy energy continues with the square between Mars and Saturn. Mars in Taurus could be making the financial markets very active. The square to Saturn could cause a drop in the financial markets. Saturn brings restriction, makes us slow down and review our choices. But Venus in a trine to Uranus brings positive surprises in love and money, so there is a bit of a battle going on. Venus rules Taurus, but Saturn and Jupiter both in Aquarius, are pushing hard against Uranus and Mars. Mars with Uranus conjunct in the sign of Taurus is very erratic behavior, especially since Uranus is about to end its retrograde. This makes the erratic energy even more intense. I would not be surprised if there are some serious demonstrations protesting the Presidential inauguration that is only a week away. This conjunction and the squares to Aquarian energy are with us for some time. This will not fade away quickly and the New Moon in Capricorn is the starting point of the unrest. Capricorn rules government, and this upcoming change is making some very uncomfortable, and protesting is their way of expressing themselves.
January 14th – Finally Uranus is done with its retrograde. The outer planets spend almost half of their time in retrograde. Uranus rules the internet, innovation, it is also the ruler of Aquarius and it is from this area it is being squared directly by Jupiter. This intensifies Uranus’s shocks and surprises. I would definitely be prepared for the unexpected at this time. Stay aware of your surroundings and don’t venture into areas unknown. With Mars close by I wouldn’t travel and when driving I would be in extreme defensive driving mode. Accidents could be prevalent. Leave the Christmas lights up if they aren’t down yet for example. Just be safe and don’t take risks. As one planet retrograde phase ends a new one begins, this is the first day of the Mercury retrograde shadow period. The retrograde begins on the 30th and lasts until Feb 20th. In the sign of Aquarius, we are learning how to connect with others. Reviewing what we think we know, searching for our tribe. This is the time for reviewing how we connect with others. You might find you are being contacted over the internet by people from your past. Friend groups you once belonged to show up in your life again. But remember it’s a time of reviewing not necessarily taking action.
January 18th – the Sun is at the last degree of Capricorn; a change is coming and the tension is extreme. The Moon is with Chiron in Aries and this has us finding ways to heal by listening to our intuition. Feeling into our emotions and releasing what does not serve us.
January 20th – Mars is exactly conjunct with Uranus at 6 degrees of Taurus as the Sun enters into the sign of Aquarius. The energy of change is pretty intense right now. Mercury is making a sextile to the South Node and a trine to the North Node. There a fated events, fated communications, fated contracts. Whatever happens will be revisited as Mercury comes back across this point twice during the retrograde. Again, it is no coincidence that this is happening during the inauguration. In your personal life no matter how hard you are trying to fight it, fate is stepping in.
January 21st – the Moon meets up with Mars and Uranus in the sign of Taurus. You are feeling extremely passionate. This is just adding some fuel to the fire caused by the square from the planets in Aquarius. Venus gives us some relief with a positive contact to Neptune. This is our escape point. In fact, if you have any issues with drugs or alcohol this is a day to not lose too much control. You don’t want to escape so far you struggle to make it back.
January 22nd – The Neptune square to the North Node becomes exact today. Neptune finally moves off the 18-degree point from its retrograde. This is a continual battle between our fate and deluding ourselves. We are struggling to see or face the truth, and that may intensify now. But soon enough your vision will be clear. The truth will be presented to you in such a way you can no longer deny it. At the same time Venus is making an odd connection with the North Node. Something in your love life is feeling off. Do not believe it if it seems too good to be true, it is. Also today, the Sun and Saturn meet up at 4 degrees of Aquarius. You could find you achieve a success milestone today as a result of the hard work of surviving January! But seriously what you have been working on is going to see a reward.
January 25th – The Sun is exactly square with Uranus today intensifying the shocks and surprises that are currently underway. It could be that the success you have leads you in a surprising new direction. Definitely potential for a change of some kind in your financial situation. This entire month is not a time for taking risks in the stock market or making any major purchases if you can avoid them. The chances of it turning out to be some sort of a money pit are extremely high.
January 28th – we have the Full Moon in Leo at 9 degrees of the sign. The number 9 also indicates endings and closure. The sign of Leo rules children, hobbies, fun and romance. This is the things we are passionate about. The Sun is conjunct with Jupiter in Aquarius and both are opposing the Moon. All of this energy is then squaring off with Uranus and Mars in Taurus. This is a lot of pressure and the way through it is to take some decisive action and make sure this closure happens. Saturn is making positive contact with Chiron, the wounded healer. If we stay devoted to our healing path, this closure will really serve us well. The Aquarius energy is ‘we the people’ energy, while Leo is very much about the ‘me’ energy. There is a need to find balance between these 2 ways of thinking/being. Venus is exactly conjunct with Pluto during the full moon as well. We are being asked to go deep, to face our fears, to take a risk and break free from that which no longer supports us, especially our friend groups. Are they supportive or energy vampires? Do they give back to you or just only want your help? It’s time to find those who support you and reciprocate. More to come on this in my full moon article.
January 30th – Mercury begins its retrograde motion at 26 degrees of Aquarius. What have you been dealing with these past few weeks? For the next 3 weeks that area of your chart is going under review. It’s time for taking a second look, not necessarily taking action. This is good for finishing the release work from the full moon, not starting new things.
January 31st – we end the month with Venus at the 29th degree of Capricorn. This intensifies the energy of Venus. In the sign of Capricorn this can be an extra surge of energy around the money you make at work. The Moon makes a trine over to Pluto which empowers us to trust our emotions and pay attention to the clues our intuition is trying to offer us at this time.
February 2021 – look ahead
Wow what an intense month. But it makes sense. Just like a planet’s energy is more intense as it enters and leaves a sign, so is the energy more intense as we move between a year. Some transitions are more intense than others. A 5 years brings a lot of change and some of it comes in very quickly and asks you to respond accordingly. The New Moon in Aquarius will happen on Feb 11th, helping us find our tribe and be connected to a cause. Then the Full Moon in Virgo happens on the 28th. The square between Saturn and Uranus is the theme for 2021. This is a clash for control. Uranus wants freedom, while Saturn demands discipline and control. The 2 simply don’t get along. This month will see a lot of uprisings and events where those who want their freedom are going to speak up and act out. We will get a break from the energy late in the Summer. Now is the time to pay attention to how this will show up for you. Maybe this is your 6th and 9th houses in conflict. You want freedom in your daily life, but there is a higher calling and it requires you to put in even more work. Just know all energy is working for the highest good. We can tap in from a, or with a, negative perspective or we can be open to the lessons and remain flexible. The energy of this year recommends the latter.
