New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra: Restoring Balance

Updated: Oct 1

A set of scales sits atop a mountain with a blazing sun behind it
Justice Restored

The New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra, conjunct Mercury and the South Node, heralds a period of profound transformation, reflection, and the need to restore balance in our lives. This eclipse's energy is intensified by the involvement of Mercury which will be conjunct the Sun and Moon. Having just completed what is called it's Cazimi with the Sun, the planet of communication and travel is a bit over powering!

A solar eclipse is a celestial event that occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking all or part of the Sun's light. This alignment causes the Moon to cast a shadow on the Earth, temporarily obscuring the Sun. There are three main types of solar eclipses: total, partial, and annular. The one occurring on October 2nd 2024, is an Annular, or Ring of Fire, unfortunately it will not be visible in North America.

Eclipses bring fated events, because of the involvement of the Nodes of the Moon. A South Node eclipse means the past, our karma, shows us what we need to let go of in order to have a new beginning. In the sign of Libra we are letting go of significant relationships whether business or personal. Those that are out of balance, where each partner's needs are not being respected, may be the first to go. The North Node in Aries opposes the New Moon, it is showing you where and how to restore the imbalance. In the sign of Aries the suggestion is to focus on your needs as much as your partner's. Venus the planetary ruler of Libra, and so this eclipse, is in an intense conversation with Saturn and Mars, but its a helpful Grand Water Trine. There is action you need to take to restore the balance.

Key Characteristics of the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra

New Moon Energy:

  • New Beginnings: New Moons are traditionally times of setting intentions and planting seeds for the future.

  • Eclipse Energy: Eclipses magnify the power of the New Moon, bringing significant changes, revelations, and the potential for new directions. Something is 'eclipsed' out of our lives that is keeping us from our fate and destiny.

Libra Energy:

  • Balance and Harmony: Libra seeks equilibrium in relationships and life, emphasizing fairness, justice, and beauty.

  • Partnerships: Focus on relationships, collaboration, and diplomacy.

Mercury Conjunction:

  • Communication and Thought: Mercury enhances mental clarity, communication, and intellectual pursuits. It will bring about fated, perhaps long overdue conversations or information to the surface. All to help you let go.

  • Reflective Thought: As Mercury is involved with the South Node, it brings a focus on past patterns and the need for reflection.

South Node Conjunction:

  • Karmic Release: The South Node represents past experiences, karma, and what needs to be released or integrated.

  • Learning from the Past: This conjunction encourages looking back at past patterns and behaviors to understand what needs to be left behind.

Venus: Eclipse Ruler

  • Venus in Scorpio: Intense emotional connections. Fear and power struggles in love or money issues.

  • Sextile aspect: A harmonious aspect with the traditional ruler of Scorpio, Mars, at 15 degrees brings the lovers of the zodiac together. The connection Injects passion Into our Interactions. See more below as we explore the Grand Water Trine this creates with Saturn, who is trying to keep the lovers out of trouble.

Supporting Aspects: These are aspects occurring at the time of the Eclipse but not directly attached to the actual eclipse planets. Or there contact is farther apart, and carries less of an impact. However, they still affect the overall energy, and are important to also pay attention to.

Mars in Cancer Square Sun, Moon and Mercury in Libra

Key Characteristics:

  • Mars in Cancer: Represents a need to act on our feelings and intuition. This may motivate you to express your feelings with a lot of passion. Not the time to give into temper tantrums.

  • Sun, Moon and Mercury in Libra: A desire for a new beginning, a new contract that is either business or personal in nature. Business contracts, marriage contracts, a new way of communicating that welcomes a fresh start in a current relationship.

  • Square Aspect: This is a harsh angle. It requires a change in how these 2 areas of your life are currently interacting. Cancer is an energy focused on caring and nurturing yourself and others. Libra is a relationship you are in that is keeping you from focusing on your own needs. Something about the relationship has to change, this could be the energy that causes a major break up. But that is meant to be, and something better will replace it. Business or Personal. With the square to Mercury verbal arguments, and accidents are highly probable.

Saturn in Pisces

Key Characteristics

  • Saturn in Pisces: This is a 2 1/2 year journey that is teaching us lessons about boundaries, spirituality, and healing. It is retrograde and about halfway through its work to restructure the house where we have this Pisces energy.

  • Grand Water Trine: this formation is created by 3 planets each trine to one another. Venus in Scorpio, transforms how we feel about power, sexuality, money. Mars in Cancer also creates change in how we express our feelings. And lastly Saturn in Pisces is mentioned above. Saturn brings the plan together for how all this energies can work together to create something where you are very successful. In the water signs this involves our feelings, our intuition, and we may see women in general succeeding.

  • Inconjunct Aspect: Saturn will be inconjunct to the New Moon in Libra planets. The advice given is not from an expected source. This is success that comes from following a plan of action that seems completely foreign to you. In fact it might just seem down right weird. And yet, doing as Saturn suggests is what helps you let go, break free, and start on the path that is meant for you.

New Moon Wishes:

Each new moon provides us an opportunity to set new intentions. According to Jan Spiller, you can set 10. However, when I am working with my clients I recommend that intentions, at or during an eclipse cycle, should be focused on releasing things versus acquiring something new. This is ideal for ending anything that has you stuck, feeling trapped or fearful.

Where to Focus New Moon Intentions

  • Relationship Dynamics: New beginnings in relationships, finding balance, and addressing past patterns.

  • Communication and Reflection: Clear communication and thoughtful reflection on past experiences to facilitate growth.

  • Karmic Release: Letting go of old habits, relationships, and behaviors that no longer serve our highest good.

  • Balance and Harmony: Striving for equilibrium in all areas of life, particularly in relationships and partnerships.
