A New Beginning Born From the Truth

Guiding Light Astrology

A translucent scorpion appears amongst the milky way surrounded my other astrological symbols in the sky.
The Sign of Scorpio

The November New Moon arrives in one of the zodiac's deepest and most transformative signs: Scorpio. This is not a New Moon that asks us to simply make a wish and move forward.

It asks us to go deeper first. The New Moon occurs at approximately 16°53′ of Scorpio on November 9, 2026. Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio, Venus is retrograde in Libra, and Pluto—the modern ruler of Scorpio—is moving forward at approximately 3° Aquarius while forming a supportive trine to retrograde Uranus in Gemini.

And there is something especially significant about the timing.

Four days after this New Moon, both Mercury and Venus station direct on November 13th/14th. That makes this a fascinating New Moon for beginning something—but perhaps not for rushing to define exactly what that beginning will become. The retrogrades suggest that the real work is happening underneath the surface. Before we can move forward, we may need to understand what we have been revisiting.

What truth have you discovered during these dual retrogrades

that changes what you are willing to begin? Or maybe, what you have learned is the why behind the 'need' for a new beginning.

🌑 What Creates a New Moon?

A New Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon come together at the same degree of the zodiac, creating a conjunction. From Earth's perspective, the Moon is positioned between Earth and the Sun, so the illuminated portion of the Moon faces away from us. This is why the Moon appears dark or nearly invisible in the night sky. Astrologically, the New Moon represents the beginning of a new lunar cycle.

It is associated with:

  • New beginnings

  • Planting seeds

  • Setting intentions

  • New emotional cycles

  • Fresh perspectives

  • Beginning a process

  • Turning inward before taking action

But every New Moon carries the characteristics of the sign where the Sun and Moon meet.

And Scorpio does not take new beginnings lightly. Scorpio wants to know what is underneath the surface. Way down deep, that place you normally try to avoid.

🦂 What Does a Scorpio New Moon Mean?

Scorpio is a fixed Water sign, traditionally ruled by Mars and modernly associated with Pluto.

It represents the parts of life that require courage, honesty and emotional depth. Fixed energy takes tremendous effort for change to happen. Perhaps why we had to have 2 separate planets preparing us for this new opportunity.

Scorpio is associated with:

  • Transformation

  • Intimacy

  • Trust

  • Shared resources

  • Psychological depth

  • Emotional truth

  • Power

  • Regeneration

  • Release

  • Healing

  • The mysteries of life

  • What must die so something else can be born

A Scorpio New Moon can therefore be an extraordinary time to begin something that requires commitment and depth. This is not necessarily the energy of trying ten different things. Scorpio asks:

What matters enough for you to go all the way?

🦂 The Mythology of Scorpio

The mythology surrounding Scorpio contains several stories, but one of the most enduring comes from Greek mythology. The scorpion was sent to kill Orion, the great hunter, after Orion's behavior and enormous confidence angered the gods—or, in some versions, after Orion threatened that he could kill every creature on Earth. The scorpion succeeded, and both Orion and the Scorpion were placed among the stars. The symbolism is fascinating.

The great hunter could not defeat the tiny creature he underestimated. Scorpio therefore carries an ancient lesson about respecting what exists beneath the surface.

But Scorpio's mythology also connects with the broader archetype of transformation that we teach in astrology: the movement from the scorpion, to the eagle, and ultimately toward the symbolic phoenix.

The scorpion survives.

The eagle rises above.

The phoenix transforms through death and rebirth.

That progression captures something essential about Scorpio:

Transformation is not simply about destroying the old. It is about becoming something the old version of you could not have imagined.

🦂 The Scorpion — the instinctive Scorpio

The Scorpion represents Scorpio in its most instinctive form.

The scorpion protects itself with its armor and stinger. Symbolically, this can describe:

  • Self-protection

  • Fear of vulnerability

  • Suspicion

  • Emotional defensiveness

  • Holding onto hurt

  • Reacting when threatened

  • The desire to maintain control

This isn't necessarily "bad" Scorpio. The scorpion has a purpose: survival and protection.

But if Scorpio remains here, its energy can become overly defensive—always anticipating betrayal, protecting itself from being hurt, or holding onto something because letting go feels dangerous.

🦅 The Eagle — rising above the situation

The Eagle represents a more evolved expression of Scorpio.

Instead of reacting from the ground level of fear or self-protection, the Eagle gains altitude.

It can see the larger picture.

Symbolically, this represents:

  • Perspective

  • Emotional maturity

  • Discernment

  • Wisdom gained through experience

  • Seeing beneath appearances without becoming consumed by them

  • Using personal power consciously rather than defensively

The Eagle doesn't necessarily stop seeing the darkness.

It simply doesn't allow the darkness to control its perspective.

This is a beautiful Scorpio lesson:

I can see the truth without allowing the truth to destroy me.

🔥 The Phoenix — transformation and rebirth

The Phoenix takes the Scorpio archetype one step further.

The Phoenix represents complete transformation. Rather than simply protecting the old self or rising above an experience, the Phoenix recognizes that the old version of itself has completed its purpose. Something must be released so something new can emerge.

This is where Scorpio's association with death and rebirth becomes especially meaningful.

The Phoenix symbolizes:

  • Letting go

  • Regeneration

  • Rebirth

  • Transformation

  • Acceptance of necessary endings

  • Reclaiming personal power

  • Becoming something new after a profound life experience

The important point is that the Phoenix doesn't return to being the same bird.

That's the heart of the metaphor.

🔥 The Scorpio New Moon Is Happening While Mercury Is Retrograde

This may be one of the most important signatures of this New Moon.

Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio, traveling backward through the same sign where the Sun and Moon are beginning their new cycle. At the New Moon, Mercury is approximately 6°–7° Scorpio, while the Sun and Moon are around 17° Scorpio.

Mercury retrograde asks us to review:

  • Conversations

  • Decisions

  • Agreements

  • Information

  • Plans

  • Assumptions

  • Communications from the past

  • Things left unsaid

And because Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio, the review tends to go deeper. This isn't necessarily about reconsidering what you had for breakfast. It can be about reconsidering what you believe to be true.

What did you misunderstand?

What information was missing?

What conversation needs to happen again?

What did you know emotionally but refuse to acknowledge?

Scorpio wants the truth. Mercury retrograde wants us to look again.

Together, they create a powerful invitation to investigate before deciding.

🔄 What Retrograde Work Is Showing Up?

There is an important distinction between a New Moon occurring during a retrograde and a New Moon occurring after the retrograde has ended. This New Moon is born during the review. Mercury will not station direct until November 13th. Venus will station direct on November 134th. That means the first few days following the New Moon may feel like a transition between two phases:

Review → Realization → Forward Movement

This suggests that the seed planted at this New Moon may not immediately reveal its entire shape. And that's okay. Sometimes the beginning is not the decision. Sometimes the beginning is the realization that makes the eventual decision possible.

💗 Venus Retrograde in Libra: Reconsidering What We Value

Venus is still retrograde in Libra, her other home sign. This is significant because Venus rules:

  • Relationships

  • Love

  • Money

  • Self-worth

  • Beauty

  • Pleasure

  • Personal values

  • Reciprocity

  • Harmony

Venus has just completed the Scorpio portion of her retrograde journey, returning to Libra on October 25th . She remains retrograde through this New Moon and stations direct on November 14th. So while Mercury is asking: "What is true?"

Venus is asking: "What do I value?"

And those two questions belong together. Because sometimes we discover that what we thought we wanted was based upon an old version of ourselves. So the question becomes: "What do I value? Now that I know the truth?"

💞 Venus in Libra Speaks in Harmony With Jupiter and the South Node in Leo

Here we find one of the more encouraging signatures in the chart. Venus retrograde in late Libra forms a harmonious sextile with Jupiter in Leo and the South Node in Leo. Around the New Moon, Venus is approximately 23° Libra, Jupiter approximately 25° Leo, and the South Node is also in late Leo. Mars traditional ruler of Scorpio forms a loose square from 22° Leo.

This creates an opportunity to revisit something from the past and recognize its value differently. Perhaps an old relationship taught you something important. Perhaps a previous creative pursuit is worth reconsidering. Perhaps something you once dismissed deserves another look. Perhaps you have outgrown a particular form of validation.

Jupiter expands whatever it touches. The South Node represents familiar territory—the patterns and experiences we already know. Mars motivates us to change, ignites our inner warrior. Venus brings values and relationships into the conversation.

So the question becomes:

What from the past still has value—and what belongs in the past?

That distinction is crucial. Not everything returning during a retrograde is meant to be reclaimed. Sometimes something returns so you can finally release it with understanding rather than regret.

🦁 Jupiter in Leo: Growth Through Authentic Self-Expression

Jupiter in Leo offers another layer to this New Moon. Leo wants to create. Leo wants to express. Leo wants to be seen for who it really is. Jupiter expands confidence, generosity and creative possibility. So while Scorpio asks us to go inward, Jupiter in Leo reminds us that the purpose of that inner work is ultimately to become more fully ourselves.

You may discover that something needs to be released before you can pursue a larger opportunity.

That might be:

  • Fear of being seen

  • An outdated relationship expectation

  • A need for external validation

  • A creative identity that no longer fits

  • A belief that you have to earn your right to succeed

  • A pattern of making yourself smaller

Sometimes letting go isn't the opposite of growth.

Letting go creates the space where growth can happen.

♇ Pluto: The Ruler of This New Moon Is Moving Forward

Now we arrive at one of the most important pieces of this New Moon.

Scorpio's modern ruler is Pluto. And Pluto is moving forward at approximately 3° Aquarius. Pluto ended its retrograde period on October 16 and is now moving forward again.

This is significant because the ruler of a New Moon describes something about how the new beginning unfolds.

Think of it this way:

The Sun and Moon tell us where the new cycle begins. The ruler tells us something about what drives that cycle and where its deeper story is playing out. So although the New Moon is in Scorpio, its modern ruler is in Aquarius.

That connects Scorpio themes of transformation with Aquarius themes of:

  • Innovation

  • Community

  • Technology

  • Collective change

  • Freedom

  • New systems

  • Future possibilities

  • Breaking old patterns

The message becomes:

Transform what no longer works—but don't simply rebuild the old system in a new shape.

Build something different.

⚡ Pluto Trine Uranus Retrograde: Transformation Meets New Information

Pluto at approximately 3° Aquarius is forming a supportive trine with Uranus retrograde in Gemini, which is around 4° Gemini at the New Moon. This is one of the most constructive aspects surrounding this lunation.

Pluto says:

Transform.

Uranus says:

Change the way you think.

Gemini adds:

Gather information. Ask questions. Learn something new.

Because Uranus is retrograde, the breakthrough may initially happen internally. A piece of information from the past could suddenly make sense. An old conversation might be understood differently. A belief may suddenly seem outdated. Or you may realize that the solution you have been searching for requires approaching the problem from an entirely different angle.

The new beginning may require a new way of thinking.

And that is particularly appropriate for Scorpio. Scorpio doesn't want superficial change.

It wants transformation at the root.

🔍 Where the Ruler Is Located Matters

This is an important principle to understand when working with New Moons.

The sign of the New Moon tells us the quality of the new beginning.

The house where its ruler is located tells us where the deeper work is occurring.

For this New Moon:

Scorpio → Pluto → Aquarius

The Scorpio New Moon says:

Go deeper.

Pluto in Aquarius says:

Change the outdated systems.

Uranus in Gemini says:

Change the way you think about the system.

This is why this New Moon can be about much more than emotional transformation.

It can involve changing how you participate in your community, how you communicate, how you use technology, how you organize your life, or how you envision your future.

🦂 The Deeper Question of This New Moon

Scorpio is often associated with letting go. But Scorpio's deeper lesson isn't simply:

"Release."

It is:

"Release what prevents transformation."

There is a difference.

You don't have to abandon everything familiar. You don't have to burn your life down.

You don't have to walk away from something simply because you are changing.

Instead, ask:

What has completed its purpose?

What am I maintaining because I'm afraid of what happens if I let go?

What truth have I discovered during this retrograde cycle?

What do I now know about myself that I didn't know in October?

And perhaps most importantly:

What deserves to come with me into the next chapter?

🌑 What Is This New Moon Really Asking Us to Begin?

The answer may surprise you. It may not be asking us to immediately begin something external. It may be asking us to begin a new relationship with truth. To stop avoiding the uncomfortable conversation. To become more honest about what we value. To recognize where an old attachment has completed its purpose. To reconsider a decision with new information. To reclaim our power without needing to control everyone else. And to understand that transformation does not mean losing ourselves.

It can mean finally becoming more ourselves.

Jupiter in your 11th house can open possibilities through friends, networks and communities—but first, Venus asks you to become clearer about what you put value in.

♏ Scorpio Rising — 1st House

♐ Sagittarius Rising — 12th House

The Scorpio New Moon moves through your 12th house of closure, retreat, spirituality and the subconscious. This may be a quieter New Moon for you, but quiet does not mean insignificant. Mercury retrograde can bring unresolved thoughts, dreams or memories to the surface. Give yourself permission to step back before moving forward.

♑ Capricorn Rising — 11th House

The opportunity is to create a future based on authentic relationships rather than social obligation.

The more authentically you redefine yourself, the easier it becomes to redefine your professional direction.

♓ Pisces Rising — 9th House

The New Moon activates your 9th house of beliefs, higher education, spirituality, travel and the search for meaning. Mercury retrograde asks you to reconsider something you once believed to be true. Perhaps your philosophy has changed. Perhaps new information is forcing you to look at an old belief differently. Pluto in your 12th house trine Uranus in your 4th can bring profound insights from your subconscious or family history. A new worldview may be emerging—but it may require releasing an old certainty first.

🌟 Final Thoughts: The Beginning Is Already Underway

This Scorpio New Moon carries a fascinating message because it arrives before the retrograde story has completely finished. Mercury is still reviewing information. Venus is still reviewing values and relationships. Pluto has turned forward. Uranus remains retrograde, encouraging a reconsideration of how we think. And Jupiter is offering an opening toward greater confidence, creativity and self-expression, eventhough it is technially in its pre-shadow phase. Then, just four days later, Mercury and Venus both station direct.

That timing gives this New Moon a beautiful progression:

Look back.

Understand.

Release.

Revalue.

Then move forward.

The new beginning may not require you to know everything today. It may simply require you to be honest about what you now know. Scorpio teaches us that sometimes the most important transformation happens before anyone else can see it. The seed goes underground before it breaks through the soil. The old skin has to loosen before something new can emerge. And sometimes we have to let go of what we thought we needed before we discover what we truly value.

This New Moon asks: What truth are you finally ready to build your next chapter around?
