What appears stable is an illusion: A Full Moon of Endings, Truth and Transformation

Guiding Light Astrology

Taurus Full Moon

The October Full Moon is not an ordinary Full Moon. Occurring at 2° Taurus, this lunation arrives with a powerful fixed-sign T-square involving the Moon in Taurus, Sun in Scorpio and Pluto at 3° Aquarius. Pluto has only recently turned direct, adding momentum to themes that may have been developing beneath the surface for months. The Moon is full at 9:11 PM MST on the 25th, but if you are located farther east it may rise for you on the 26th.

At the same time, Venus—the ruler of Taurus—is retrograde at 29° Libra, the final degree of one of her two home signs. Mercury has also just stationed retrograde in Scorpio, while Neptune in Aries forms an exact quincunx to the Scorpio Sun.

And there is another fascinating layer: the Full Moon is close by degree to retrograde Chiron at 28° Aries, even though they are technically in different signs.

This creates a Full Moon that may feel like somewhat of a crossroads. But perhaps most importantly, something may not be ready to be finished yet. The Taurus Full Moon asks us to slow down long enough to understand what is actually happening before we decide what comes next.

🌕 What Is a Full Moon?

A Full Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are opposite one another in the zodiac. Astronomically, Earth is positioned between the Sun and Moon, allowing sunlight to illuminate the lunar surface facing Earth. Astrologically, this opposition creates a moment of illumination, culmination and awareness.

Something that began around the previous New Moon can reach a point of visibility. The October 10th New Moon occurred in Libra, beginning a cycle concerned with relationships, balance, agreements, fairness and values. It too was ruled by Venus, back to review the work started at that new moon. Now the Full Moon brings that story into the Taurus–Scorpio polarity.

Taurus asks:

What do I need to feel secure?

Scorpio asks:

What must I release or transform to get there?

And Pluto asks an even more uncomfortable question:

Is this actually a false sense of security?

🌿 Full Moon in Taurus: The Need for Something Real

Taurus is an Earth sign, grounded, slow to act. It wants tangible results. It wants stability. It wants something that can be touched, built, cultivated and trusted. Since this is a full moon under pressure it can make the earth a bit unstable. Things like earthquakes and volcanoes erupting are possible, but not guaranteed. Earthquakes in the stock markets are also possible.

Taurus is associated with:

  • Money and material resources

  • Self-worth

  • Possessions

  • Security

  • The physical body

  • Nature

  • Sensuality

  • Patience

  • Personal values

  • What we are willing to build over time

A Taurus Full Moon can therefore be an excellent time to step back and ask:

What is actually working?

What is worth keeping?

Where have I created genuine stability?

And perhaps:

Where am I calling something "stable" simply because it is familiar?

That last question becomes particularly important this year.

Because this is a Taurus Full Moon sitting directly across from Scorpio—and being pressured by Pluto, and Pluto demands the truth.

🐂 The Mythology of Taurus

The mythology surrounding Taurus is ancient, and the image of the Bull appears in several cultures.

In Greek mythology, the constellation Taurus is most famously associated with Zeus and Europa. According to the myth, Zeus transformed himself into a beautiful white bull and appeared among the herds of Europa's father. Europa was fascinated by the gentle creature and eventually climbed onto his back. Zeus then carried her across the sea to Crete, where he revealed his true identity. The story became associated with the constellation Taurus.

There is something interesting about this mythology when viewed symbolically. The Bull appears calm, beautiful and trustworthy—but the moment Europa climbs onto his back, the situation changes dramatically. The lesson isn't that Taurus cannot be trusted. Rather, the myth reminds us that what appears stable can sometimes carry us into an entirely different landscape. Or, how something appears on the surface, in the material world, is different than what it truly is. Which is why this full moon asks us not to rush, until we know the true story of the situation evolving around us.

The Bull is also associated with much older celestial traditions. Taurus has been identified as a bull for thousands of years, including the ancient Mesopotamian tradition of the Bull of Heaven. So beneath the modern astrological interpretation of Taurus as comfort, money and security is a much older symbolism: strength, fertility, physical power, creation and the ability to endure. Those qualities are especially relevant now. Because this Full Moon may ask us to determine what deserves our endurance—and what does not.

♇ Pluto at 3° Aquarius: The Pressure Behind the Full Moon

This is where the Full Moon becomes much more intense. The Moon at approximately 2° Taurus opposes the Sun at approximately 2° Scorpio. Both form squares to Pluto at approximately 3° Aquarius, creating a powerful fixed-sign T-square. Pluto turned direct on October 16 at approximately 3° Aquarius, just days before this Full Moon. This means Pluto is essentially standing at the focal point of the Full Moon's tension. And Pluto doesn't usually ask for cosmetic changes.

Pluto deals with:

  • Power

  • Control

  • Fear

  • Attachment

  • Transformation

  • Psychological truth

  • Endings

  • Regeneration

  • What has been buried

  • What can no longer continue in its present form

So what pressure does this create around endings?

It can create a feeling that something has reached a point where it cannot simply be ignored anymore.

Could a financial situation needs restructuring?

Perhaps a relationship dynamic has become impossible to maintain.

Or is it a career or lifestyle no longer reflects your values?

Perhaps something you once considered essential has become an emotional burden.

The Taurus Moon wants to hold on. The Scorpio Sun knows something must transform.

Pluto says:

You cannot preserve everything exactly as it was.

And yet this does not necessarily mean an immediate ending. Pluto's deeper lesson is transformation. Sometimes what needs to end is not the relationship, job, home or goal itself. Sometimes what needs to end is the way we have been participating in it.

⚕️ Chiron at 28° Aries: The Wound Beneath the Ending

The Moon is also close by degree to retrograde Chiron at 28° Aries, although they are in different signs. This is worth explaining because it adds another emotional layer.

The Moon is at approximately 2° Taurus while Chiron is at approximately 28° Aries—a separation of only about four degrees across the Aries/Taurus boundary.

So while this is not technically a conjunction by sign, the proximity is significant enough astrologically to consider.

Chiron in Aries can bring awareness to wounds involving:

  • Independence

  • Identity

  • Self-assertion

  • Anger

  • Being overlooked

  • The right to put yourself first

  • Fear of taking up space

  • Fear of being rejected for being authentically yourself

And because Chiron is retrograde, this process is particularly introspective. The Full Moon may therefore expose not only what needs to end, but why it has been so difficult to let go.

Sometimes we hold onto something because it is valuable. Sometimes we hold onto it because we are afraid of what its loss might say about us. That distinction matters.

The question becomes:

Am I protecting something of genuine value—or protecting myself from an old wound?

💗 Venus Retrograde at 29° Libra: Why the Past Matters

Now we arrive at one of the most important pieces of this Full Moon. The Taurus Moon is ruled by Venus. And Venus is retrograde. But she isn't simply retrograde anywhere. She has returned to 29° Libra, the final degree of one of her home signs.

Venus began her retrograde journey in Scorpio earlier in October and is now revisiting Libra territory. At the end of August she passed through here giving you a first glimpse of the work that was needing a deeper review. There is one part of the retrograde story coming to an end. Not all of the work is done, but this timing is unmistakable. The relationships that no longer feed your soul, must change or end. Whether that relationship is to a person, a job, or yourself, change is needed. But what kind of change?

Because the ruler of a Full Moon is retrograde, we are often asked to look backward for the answers, before we can move ahead.

Venus retrograde can bring our attention back toward:

  • Past relationships

  • Old decisions

  • Previous financial choices

  • Unresolved values

  • Former desires

  • Relationship patterns

  • Questions of self-worth

  • Things we once wanted

  • Things we thought we wanted but no longer do

At 29° Libra, there is an intense need for completion, it will be your initial instinct to end whatever seems to no longer be aligned. But don't just walk away without being able to answer:

What did I learn from this?

Because you cannot fully understand where you're going if you haven't understood why you arrived here.

🔄 There Is More to Uncover Before You Finish That Taurus Goal

This is one of the strongest messages of this Full Moon. You may have a goal connected to the Taurus house in your birth chart. You may think you know what you want. You may even believe you are ready to finish the process. But with Venus retrograde ruling the Full Moon, there may be another layer of the story that still needs to be uncovered.

The Full Moon can illuminate something without necessarily providing the final answer.

That distinction is important.

Illumination does not always equal completion.

You may suddenly understand why something hasn't worked. You may discover missing information. You may revisit an old decision. You may realize that your original goal needs to be modified. Or you may discover that the thing you thought you needed is no longer what you truly value.

The Taurus Full Moon says:

Don't rush the harvest.

Make sure the foundation is sound first.

☿ Mercury Stations Retrograde: The Story Is Not Finished

There is another remarkable timing piece surrounding this Full Moon.

Mercury stations retrograde on October 24 at approximately 20° Scorpio, just before the Full Moon. So technically, Mercury does not station retrograde at the exact moment of the Full Moon—it does so the day before. But astrologically, the timing is striking. The Scorpio Sun is illuminating something. Pluto is demanding deeper transformation. Venus is retrograde and asking us to reconsider values and relationships. And Mercury is turning backward through Scorpio.

That is another strong symbolic message:

There is more information to uncover.

Mercury retrograde in Scorpio can encourage us to revisit conversations, investigate what lies beneath the surface and reconsider conclusions we thought were final.

This could involve:

  • A conversation from the past

  • A financial agreement

  • Shared resources

  • A relationship issue

  • Something someone said

  • Information that was previously overlooked

  • A secret or previously unknown detail

  • A decision that needs another look

So if you're standing at the Taurus Full Moon thinking:

"This is it. I'm finished. I'm moving forward."

The astrology may answer:

Not quite yet. Look again.

There may be another piece of information coming.

🌊 The Sun Quincunx Neptune: Why the Full Moon's Light May Feel Unclear

The Scorpio Sun is also forming a quincunx to Neptune at approximately 2° Aries. A quincunx—or inconjunct—is an aspect requiring adjustment between two energies that don't naturally understand one another. Scorpio wants depth. It wants truth. It wants to investigate.

Neptune can blur boundaries, dissolve certainty and make it difficult to determine exactly what is real. This can create an interesting quality to the Full Moon's illumination.

Normally we think of a Full Moon as shining a light on something. But this Full Moon may shine a light on something without immediately revealing the entire picture. It may appear foggy.

You may see enough to know that something needs attention—but not enough to know exactly what the final outcome will be. That is another reason Mercury's retrograde matters.

Don't confuse a revelation with the final answer.

Something can become visible while still requiring more information. Neptune asks us to leave room for uncertainty.

🔥 What Happens When Venus, Mercury and Pluto All Ask Us to Look Again?

This is where the Full Moon becomes especially powerful.

Venus says:

Review the things you say you value.

Mercury says:

Review the information.

Pluto says:

Review the power dynamics.

Chiron says:

Review the wound underneath the reaction.

Neptune says:

Review what you think you know.

And Taurus says:

Don't move until you know what is truly worth building.

This isn't necessarily an astrology of immediate action.

It is an astrology of deep evaluation.

🌕 What Is a Taurus Full Moon Good For?

Despite all of the intensity, Taurus is still Taurus. And that means this Full Moon has tremendous potential for grounding.

This is an excellent time to focus on:

💰 Financial stability

Review budgets, savings, investments, spending and long-term financial priorities.

🏡 Home and physical security

Consider what would make your environment feel more peaceful, comfortable and sustainable.

🌱 Building slowly

Instead of asking, "How quickly can I accomplish this?", ask:

"What can I build that will still matter five years from now?"

💗 Self-worth

Separate your intrinsic value from your income, relationship status, possessions or other people's approval.

🧘‍♀️ The body

Taurus reminds us that the body often knows when something is no longer sustainable.

Rest.

Eat well.

Spend time in nature.

Slow down.

Reconnect with your senses.

🌿 Simplifying

Remove what has become unnecessary.

Taurus does not need excess.

It needs what is valuable and lasting.

🪴 Creating something tangible

Plant something.

Build something.

Organize something.

Cook something.

Make something.

Taurus loves the satisfaction of turning an idea into something real.

🌟 The Deeper Purpose of This Full Moon

The October Taurus Full Moon may not be about getting the answer immediately. It may be about becoming honest enough to recognize what the answer needs to include.

Taurus is asking:

What is actually worth keeping?

That may be the most important question of this Full Moon. Because sometimes an ending isn't about losing something. Sometimes an ending is about finally releasing the version of something that can no longer continue.

So if you are standing at the threshold of an important goal, don't assume that a delay means failure.

"No."

Sometimes it is saying:

"Not until you understand this part."

There may be one more conversation.

One more piece of information.

One more adjustment.

One more look at what you truly value.

And that may be exactly what is needed before the Taurus house in your chart can move toward the stable, tangible outcome you have been working to create.

This Full Moon asks us to finish what is finished—and keep working on what isn't.
