New Moon in Sagittarius: A Cosmic Call to Expand and Grow

An Archer and her Bow kneels down beneath a darkened moon amidst the stars in the sky
Sagittarius New Moon

November 30th or December 1st, depending on location, the New Moon in Sagittarius arrives with a spirit of adventure, optimism, and boundless possibility. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, wisdom, and growth. However, with Jupiter in retrograde motion in Gemini, the usual outward pursuit of adventure takes a more introspective turn. This new moon also forms part of a powerful Grand Fire Trine with Mars in Leo and the North Node in Aries, adding intensity, motivation, and a karmic push toward fulfilling our destiny.

The interplay of these fiery and intellectual energies creates a dynamic atmosphere of self-discovery, growth, and courage. However, there is also an undertone of deep reflection and realignment, especially concerning how we approach knowledge, communication, and our personal philosophies.

The New Moon in Sagittarius: Embracing Expansion and Exploration

New Moons are times of new beginnings, setting intentions, and planting seeds for the future. It's a time where the Sun and Moon combine to create new beginnings. You are given a blank slate, the Moon, to create from. Remember you get to set 10 wishes, around 11:21 pm MST. This is a good lunar event to also work with the fire energy, like speaking intentions into a candle. In Sagittarius, this energy takes on the characteristics of exploration, adventure, truth-seeking, and expansion of consciousness. Sagittarius encourages us to step beyond our comfort zones, embrace freedom, and pursue new horizons—whether through physical travel, intellectual exploration, or spiritual growth. Key themes of the New Moon in Sagittarius include:

  • Expansion of Beliefs: This is a time to explore new perspectives, challenge old belief systems, and open your mind to different ideas and experiences.

  • Pursuit of Higher Knowledge: Sagittarius rules higher learning, philosophy, and spiritual wisdom. It’s an ideal time to seek out new knowledge or delve deeper into your own personal truths.

  • Optimism and Positivity: Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of optimism and abundance. Even in times of uncertainty, this New Moon brings a sense of hope and faith in the future.

  • Adventure and Exploration: Whether it’s literal travel or a metaphorical journey of self-discovery, Sagittarius urges you to embrace the unknown and take bold steps toward new experiences.

Jupiter Retrograde in Gemini: Reflecting on Communication and Growth

Jupiter, Sagittarius’s ruling planet, being in retrograde during this New Moon brings an element of introspection and reassessment. In Gemini, the sign of communication, learning, and adaptability, Jupiter retrograde prompts us to review how we expand our knowledge, how we communicate with others, and how our mental processes shape our reality.

With Jupiter retrograde in Gemini, the usual outward exploration associated with Sagittarius turns inward, asking us to:

  • Reassess Our Beliefs and Ideas: Gemini is concerned with gathering information, while Jupiter represents wisdom. Jupiter retrograde in Gemini asks us to question the information we’ve been absorbing. Are our beliefs based on superficial knowledge or deep understanding?

  • Reevaluate Communication: Gemini rules communication, and with Jupiter in retrograde, this is a time to reflect on how we communicate our ideas and truths. Are we speaking our truth, or are we simply echoing what we’ve heard from others? This is a powerful time to realign our words with our deeper values.

  • Internal Expansion: While Jupiter normally encourages outward growth, its retrograde in Gemini focuses on internal mental expansion. This could involve revisiting old ideas, reviewing educational goals, or even reflecting on how we connect with our immediate environment.

Grand Fire Trine: Mars in Leo, North Node in Aries, and New Moon in Sagittarius

The Grand Fire Trine involving Mars in Leo, the North Node in Aries, and the New Moon in Sagittarius adds an incredible boost of fiery energy to this lunar event. A Grand Fire Trine is an alignment of planets in fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), creating a flow of passionate, creative, and motivating energy. This configuration offers the momentum to take bold, courageous actions aligned with our true desires and purpose.

Mars in Leo: Courageous Action and Creative Expression

Mars, the planet of action, drive, and ambition, in the sign of Leo amplifies our need for boldness, creativity, and self-expression. Leo encourages us to step into the spotlight, take leadership roles, and pursue our passions with confidence. This placement of Mars adds:

  • Courage and Determination: Mars in Leo provides the bravery needed to take risks and go after what we truly want. It’s a time to stand out, express yourself fully, and pursue your goals with heart and conviction.

  • Creative Motivation: Leo rules creativity, and Mars in Leo pushes us to channel our energy into creative endeavors, whether artistic or in leadership roles.

North Node in Aries: Karmic Destiny and New Beginnings

The North Node represents our karmic path and soul’s purpose. In Aries, the sign of self-reliance, independence, and pioneering energy, the North Node is pushing us toward new beginnings and personal empowerment. This placement encourages us to:

  • Pursue Independence: Aries energy is all about forging your own path, taking initiative, and being unapologetically authentic. The North Node in Aries encourages us to embrace our individuality and make bold moves toward our personal growth.

  • Face Karmic Challenges: The North Node often brings karmic lessons that challenge us to step into our power and courage. In Aries, this means we must confront our fears around independence, leadership, and self-assertion.

Grand Fire Trine: Integration of Courage, Purpose, and Expansion

The energy of the Grand Fire Trine brings these three dynamic elements together, forming a powerful support system for transformation and growth:

  • The New Moon in Sagittarius offers the optimism and desire for expansion.

  • Mars in Leo provides the courage and determination to take bold actions.

  • The North Node in Aries aligns us with our karmic purpose and calls us to step into our authentic power.

This Grand Fire Trine creates a harmonious flow of energy that encourages us to take decisive action, align with our higher purpose, and pursue our dreams with passion. However, this fiery energy needs to be grounded and focused, particularly with Jupiter in retrograde, reminding us to be thoughtful and reflective in our pursuits.

Saturn Square New Moon in Sagittarius: Bridging Structure and Freedom

When Saturn in Pisces forms a square aspect to the New Moon in Sagittarius, we are met with a dynamic tension between opposing forces: the rigid discipline and boundaries of Saturn versus the expansive, free-spirited energy of Sagittarius. This particular aspect asks us to balance the need for structure, responsibility, and introspection (Saturn) with the desire for adventure, optimism, and forward movement (Sagittarius). This square can feel challenging, but it also offers an opportunity for growth by pushing us to refine our dreams and aspirations. A square aspect always represents a need for change.

Supporting Energy: Venus trine Uranus and Mercury trine Chiron

When Venus in Capricorn trines Uranus in Taurus financial surprises and blessings are possible. An opportunity may present itself to you that involves either love or finances. It may take you by surprise, Uranus, but it will be a pleasant one, Venus.

When Chiron in Aries is speaking in harmony with Mercury in retrograde in Sagittarius, there is healing work to do that requires some serious introspection. Mercury just began its retrograde motion on the 25th. It has been speaking in harmony with Chiron for some time now as it moved forward, paused, and then went retrograde beginning at 22 degrees of the sign. Now at 20 they meet to discuss the plan again. Can your beliefs change? In order to heal they just might need to.
