The final New Moon of the year happens on December 23, 2022 at 3:16 am MST. It will happen in the sign of Capricorn at 1 degree of the sign, just like the last new moon at 1 degree of Sagittarius. Capricorn is one of the hardest working energies in the zodiac. Ruled by the planet Saturn, there is a lot of discipline in this energy. It is an earth sign, so financially grounded. It also rules the 10th house, or what is known as the midheaven, which is associated with your career, fame and recognition. Each month the Moon visits a new sign and joins up with the Sun, creating a New Moon, as there is no light on it, this creates a blank canvas for you emotionally. Since we manifest with our emotions, this is the best time of the month to set new intentions associated with the energy of the sign the Moon resides in. Capricorn, as mentioned above, is a great time to focus in on new things related to your career, or if retired, how others recognize your gifts and talents.
Each new moon we create 10 New Moon wishes as close to the time of the event as possible. At 1 degree we have a double emphasis of new beginnings. In numerology the 1 energy is often associated with beginning something new. Or, being offered something new. The Sun, our ego, joins with the Moon, our emotions, to help us become focused on what we want to succeed in this area of our life and chart.
The Sun like Capricorn energy, enjoys success. The Moon however, is not at its best in Capricorn. It is a little bit cold and too serious for the Moon, which enjoys its home sign of Cancer, that is exactly opposite Capricorn. In astrology we call this being at ‘fall’ or ‘detriment’. Basically, the Moon has to learn to accomplish its goals with more of its thinking self than feeling self. It isn’t that it can’t do it, just not its strength. But having the Sun there to support the Moon will help.
The only planet directly involved with the Sun and Moon during this event is Jupiter, who has just re-entered the sign of Aries, as it begins to move forward from its long summer retrograde that started back in the sign of Pisces. When there is a square, that means something has to change in order for these planet energies to be able to work together. Jupiter in Aries is reminding us how strong we are on our own. We need to remember that if we want a new beginning in our career, we are the ones who need to be making the effort. This is not the time to sit around and wait for someone else to make the changes necessary. This is all about you. Jupiter is a gentle giant, and kinder teacher than Saturn, but Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn, so one way or another there is a lesson to be learned before this new beginning can occur.
Saturn as the ruler of Capricorn, and traditional ruler also of Aquarius, is sitting at 21 degrees of Aquarius. It is moving forward and finally making a bit of distance between itself and Uranus, lessening even more the very long square dance these two planets had since 2021. But Saturn has wide rings, so that energy can be felt as much as 10 degrees apart. Wherever you have Saturn in your chart is where you may see some type of message or lesson about this new beginning you want.
Speaking of Uranus, it will be in a trine to Venus at the time of this event. Also, in the sign of Capricorn, sitting next to Mercury and Pluto, Venus is feeling under pressure. She definitely is looking to that Uranus energy to break free from some type of financial restraints. The Venus energy is more likely to enjoy overspending than a budget like the Saturn/Capricorn energy likes. This could be some sort of financial gift that occurs helping you make a change in career unexpectedly. If not, career minded at the moment, Venus is also about love, and since it is also speaking with the North Node in Taurus with Uranus, there could be some sort of surprise meeting that ends up in a committed relationship. The 10th house is also about our status in the world, married or single. That could change suddenly and have some kind of financial impact. If you want that to change, this is a good time to set those type of intentions.
Of important note today is also the fact that Chiron ends its retrograde that began in mid-July. This is very similar to how Jupiter ended its retrograde last month with the New Moon in Sagittarius. There are no coincidences in Astrology. In the sign of Aries, it has been helping us see how we create self – doubt that leads to a lack of confidence. Or maybe you have too much confidence, and it turns other people off. Whatever your lesson, the time for inner reflection is coming to an end, almost exactly at the same time of this new moon. Healing these wounds you have deep within, maybe even physically, can occur at the time of this New Moon. This could come as a bit welcome relief, especially if you have been suffering from migraines. Headaches are always a good reminder to pay attention to the thoughts we have about ourselves. You create what you think you are. Hopefully this is just the push you need to believe in yourself, and what you are capable of achieving.
Let’s take a look at what area of your life you should be setting your new intentions for, based on this New Moon in Capricorn. You may notice this applies most to your Rising sign, but also check for your Sun and Moon. The latter showing up on an internal or emotional level.
Aries – Capricorn is your 10th house, which means all discussed above doubly applies to you. Something about your status or career may begin with the help of this new moon. New job, new career, a change in your relationship status is possible as well. Saturn in your 11th house of friends and networking groups could suggest a helping hand from a friend, as long as you are being disciplined and doing the work.
Taurus – the 9th house is activated for you and this is where we seek higher knowledge, ways to grow and expand. We may be looking for a trip overseas, or to work with someone from overseas. This is the perfect time to set your sights on enrolling in some sort of learning program. In fact, a mentor at work might just suggest you get a degree so you have a better chance at the next promotion.
Gemini – hang in there Gemini, Mars is almost done being retrograde in your 1st house! I know it seems like forever. Capricorn in your 8th house could bring you a new source of income that is outside of the money you make at your job. This could be a good time to kick off a side gig of some kind, or a passive source of income. This is also the house that rules our intimate partnerships, so you could wish to manifest a new partner. Perhaps this is an older or more mature person, who lives or came from overseas.
Cancer – the 7th house rules your serious relationships and business partnerships. When this house is activated it is time to focus in on what you want to create whether it is a business or personal relationship. Sometimes you can even just wish to take an existing relationship to a more serious level. With Saturn in your 6th house you are either going to meet someone because of the work you do or someone at work could introduce you to the ‘one’.
Leo – the 6th house bodes well for new beginnings for your job, your health, or even getting a new pet. If you are retired this is a good time to give back and do something where you can be of service to others. Your spouse or partner could be playing a role somehow in helping you make this new start.
Virgo – the 5th house is the one where we just want to have some fun! This is the house that rules our creative gifts and our children. You could have a child who gets a new job with this kind of energy. Of course, with Saturn in your 6th house of work, you may be inspired to take a hobby and turn it into more of a serious job.
Libra – the 4th house suggests it’s time to think about a new beginning that involves where you currently live. Could be time for a move or time to spruce up the home you live in. Maybe you will be moving as a result of a new job. Saturn has been in your 5th house for some time now perhaps showing you how your creative gifts can help you get your house ready to sell.
Scorpio – the 3rd house can bring a new vehicle, or any type of communication device. You too like Taurus could be guided to go back to school for some sort of certification. With Saturn in your 4th house still, you could get support from the family to pursue this dream you have. But don’t dive right in on a new vehicle until Mars is done being retrograde around Jan 12th could be better.
Sagittarius – the 2nd house rules over the money you make. You can start a new job, or get a raise at the one you currently have. Something about getting a certification may be what leads to this raise. Saturn is looking for you to work hard and study first of course.
Capricorn – of course this is your New Moon, so it happens in your 1st house, the house of the self. This is how you show yourself to others, how you choose to be seen, and how others recognize you. There could be some type of change to your physical appearance that you want to make. Or maybe you just want to be seen as more practical and serious. With Saturn sitting in your 2nd house of the money you make this change can benefit you financially.
Aquarius – the 12th house can be a new beginning that isn’t all that apparent to the naked eye. Unless you are about to move overseas, or make a career change that involves something overseas, or you are part of some large organization. This is the house that rules all things that are hidden, our spirituality and psychic abilities could come into our awareness. Saturn has been pushing you to be more serious and not so flighty. When you are seen as more serious good things will come to you.
Pisces – the 11th house could bring you a new friend group or networking group for work. This is also the house that rules our benefactors or as I like to call them our fairy godparents. This is a good time to wish for a windfall. Saturn is in your 12th house of hidden secrets. There could be some secret at work involving a mentor that affects the job you currently have, for the better of course.
